Cultural Food Tour September 1-30

Food brings us together in so many ways. Memories from home, new experiences, and laughter around the table make us all feel welcome no matter where we call home. Join our local restaurants for the month of September as they celebrate their chosen cultures with the Cultural Food Tour. Order any Cultural Food Tour dish from participating restaurants and enter your name to WIN $100 Heart of Alberta Dollars sponsored by the Stettler Regional Board of Trade and Community Development.

Art Exhibit- Pretend Foraging in Sleeved Blankets

September 2nd-October 2nd

Explore the vibrant world of art at the library! Check out the captivating exhibit “Pretend Foraging in Sleeved Blankets” by Lethbridge-based artist Grace Wirzba, in town as part of the TREX (Travelling Exhibition Program of the Art Gallery of Alberta).  Wirzba selected objects from the Galt Museum and Archives collection in Lethbridge and invited friends and strangers create artistic responses to these archival pieces. She then translated these responses to a series of 13 drawings and 8 mini quilts. Additionally, enjoy the intricate pencil sketches of local landmarks by Linda Osetsky-Kneeland.

Zürcher Geschnetzeltes September 3rd

Traditionally prepared with veal, white wine, cream, meat broth and mushrooms. Served with Rösti or röschti is a Swiss dish consisting mainly of potatoes, sautéed or shallow-fried in a pan. It was originally a breakfast dish, commonly eaten by farmers in the canton of Bern, but is now eaten all over Switzerland and around the world. You will learn how to create perfectly folded and flavourful Rösti.

Swiss Christmas Cookies September 5th

Swiss Christmas Cookies are a baking tradition with Swiss family and you are invited to participate in Alberta Culture Day cooking class. Swiss Traditional Christmas Cookies are taken very seriously. 

Spitzbuben melts in your mouth butter cookies sandwiched together with homemade jam and dusted with powdered sugar. They look best when one half of the cookie sandwich has a decorative hole in the middle and filled with a thin layer of jam.

Swiss Bread September 10th

Come bake some Zopf bread. Rich, buttery Zopf bread is great when cut into thick slices with butter and jam.  Their hearty grain breads are just as good.  Crusty but with a dense moist crumb, and not quite so dark as their German cousins, a good Swiss loaf will taste great for days.

Swiss Days at the Stettler Town & Country Museum September 14th

Learn about the history and culture of Switzerland at the Stettler Museum. Artifact displays, Swiss wrestling display, Cross Bow demonstration, Alphorn performance, Swiss Bernese Mountain dog exhibit,  Swiss miniature Golf, Games, Yodelling performance, Genealogy class, story-telling, Swiss food - Cervelat, Bratwurst  and Raclette will be served with special features on the Swedish community at the Stettler Museum. Everyone welcome.

Bring the whole family to the library on Saturday, September 14 at 10:15 a.m. for a special Swiss-themed Family Story Time! Enjoy enchanting stories by Swiss authors, perfect for children of all ages. After the storytelling, kids can get creative with a fun craft activity—making their very own Edelweiss flowers, a symbol of Switzerland’s natural beauty.

Volksmarsch September 15th

Join us on September 15 at 10 a.m. for a Swiss-style Volksmarch! Meet at the Stettler Board of Trade for a community walk celebrating fitness, friendship, and the great outdoors. A Volksmarch is a non-competitive walking event, perfect for all ages and abilities. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water bottles.
