Destination Stettler

Tourism in Stettler starts with the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions; beautiful nearby Buffalo Lake; and as one of the main gateways to the world famous Canadian Badlands and it only grows from there with many special events and attractions for everyone.

Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions, Ol' MacDonalds Resort (On Buffalo Lake) and the Stettler Town and Country Museum Complex (Alberta's 5th Largest Pioneer Museum) are the flagships of Stettler's tourist attractions and help in drawing visitors to the many other events and attractions offered in Stettler and nearby villages and hamlets.

The Village of Big Valley, southern terminus for Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions; offers a step back in time with a wealth of railway history and architecture. Big Valley is also the home of the Creation Science Museum, McAlisters' Garage, and the infamous Jimmy Jock Boardwalk as well as one of the last examples of a traditional wooden grain elevator, the Alberta Wheat Pool Grain Elevator.

The Village of Donalda, located 40 km. north of Stettler features the World's largest Kerosene Lamp, along with a lamp museum with the largest museum collection of oil lamps in the world.  Some unique art shops, a spectacular view of the Willow Canyon coulees and other events and attractions make Donalda a great day trip from the Stettler Community.

Stettler is an excellent base for fall hunting including migratory bird and big game. There are several local guides and hunting lodges located in and around the community.  Stettler is the birthplace for the Canadian Badlands Pheasant Festival and the event is held annually for those wishing to get out and see the pristine beauty of our lands while enjoying one of their favorite pastime.

The Stettler Regional Board of Trade Office is also an Accredited Alberta Visitor Information Provider.
